Coleman Elementary School
Coleman Elementary School
The revitalization of Coleman Elementary School—funded through San Rafael City Schools Measures B and C Bond Program—represents a thoughtful, multi-phased transformation of a cherished neighborhood campus. Playing a critical role in this effort, Kier + Wright’s (K+W) surveying team delivered a comprehensive topographic survey of the entire campus that provided a guide for this evolving campus transformation .
With students, teachers, and construction teams active on site, K+W’s surveyors worked through a precisely coordinated, unobtrusive field process, ensuring that day-to-day school activities and phased construction could proceed without disruption. Their detailed data collection captured every essential campus feature, enabling design teams to seamlessly integrate new improvements into existing site conditions with accuracy and efficiency.
This foundation has supported recent key additions: the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Early Learning Outdoor Classroom (ELOC) buildings, which emphasize safe, flexible indoor-outdoor learning environments. The play yard has been thoughtfully planned and designed with elements such as a water flume, climbing mound, tree fort, and shaded outdoor lunch area. Active learning and exploration extend into a variety of outdoor play and gathering areas, including a sensory walk, long jump zone, basketball courts, labyrinth walk, hopscotch area, and alphabet caterpillar challenge.
