CyrusONE Data Center
CyrusONE Data Center
The CyrusONE Data Center project showcases the resilience needed to face the intricacies and hurdles of large-scale data centers. The utility infrastructure is perhaps the biggest struggle which is why the K+W team puts focused effort into the schematic design phase. Our team took a collaborative approach and worked with the entire project team, ensuring elements worked together seamlessly.
Fitting all the utility infrastructure into a data center site is like solving a complex puzzle, as limited space, massive generators, and the electricity they produce must all be carefully arranged to work together efficiently. The joint trench must be properly sized for a data center, something the K+W team has incorporated into their process when designing a data center to make the design process more efficient.
Some unique challenges the CyrusONE Data Center faced was careful coordination for compliance with aviation regulations with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Air quality concerns became central, and K+W worked diligently to address the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) environmental standards. As we move to the future, our team is balancing the need for wastewater treatment, like retention ponds, with the complex utility demands of the site.
The team’s ability to manage complex entitlements, solve infrastructure challenges, and incorporate critical environmental considerations speaks to their expertise in navigating the evolving needs of large-scale data centers. The lessons learned on the CyrusONE project continue to inform how KWRE approaches similar developments, ensuring that future projects will be more efficient, better coordinated, and ultimately more successful.
