Downtown Ice

Every holiday season, the San Jose Downtown Association sets up an outdoor ice skating rink in downtown San Jose. Kier + Wright provides construction staking services for the set up of Downtown Ice, which is comprised of a 12,000-square-foot ice skating rink, a 3,300-square-foot platform, 500 square feet of portable structures, and a ramp leading to the platform.

In 2004, the San Jose Downtown Association moved the seasonal ice skating rink to the historic Circle of Palms Plaza on South Market Street. Kier + Wright provided topographic surveying services to support the development of the relocated layout and provided staking services for the assembly of the ice skating rink at its new location. During every fall since (other than fall of 2020), Kier + Wright has staked the Downtown Ice layout. Kier + Wright adds efficiency to the assembly of the rink and the associated facilities by color-coding the reference points in the field to correspond with a color-coded fabrication plan.
