STACK Infrastructure

In the heart of Silicon Valley, STACK Infrastructure’s latest data center at 2001 Fortune Drive represents the intersection of advanced technology and sustainable design. This three-story, 240,000-square-foot facility adds significant capacity to STACK’s Silicon Valley campus, delivering 32 MW of power sourced entirely from renewable energy. Adjacent to the existing SV1 building, this facility is tailored to support hyperscale clients with a focus on efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Kier + Wright (K+W) played a crucial role in the successful development of this state-of-the-art facility, bringing decades of civil engineering expertise to the project. From the outset, K+W’s responsibilities included the demolition of outdated structures and utilities, paving the way for a site that seamlessly integrates accessibility, security, and resilience. The team designed ADA-compliant pathways and secure fire access routes, connecting the new SV2 facility to SV1 while fortifying both buildings with robust security features to ensure operational integrity.

K+W was instrumental in implementing innovative water and energy solutions, essential to meeting the high demands of data center operations. Understanding the substantial cooling requirements, K+W coordinated with the South Bay Water Recycling Department to integrate a recycled water system, which supplies the facility’s chiller tanks. This system not only minimizes strain on municipal water resources but also significantly lowers operational costs, exemplifying K+W’s commitment to sustainable engineering practices. Given the flood-prone nature of the site, K+W also developed elevated building pads, enhancing the facility’s resilience against potential flooding and environmental hazards.

Collaboration with PG&E was another key aspect of K+W’s role, as the team worked to establish utility easements and underground power infrastructure that would support the data center’s extensive energy needs. Additionally, K+W’s work extended beyond the facility to include frontage enhancements along Trade Zone Boulevard and Fortune Drive. These improvements involved new landscaping, sidewalks, and curbs, contributing to the overall accessibility and aesthetic appeal of the site.

K+W’s comprehensive approach and ability to navigate complex project demands underscore the firm’s expertise in the design and execution of mission-critical facilities. With a focus on sustainability, K+W brought together innovative solutions, rigorous planning, and close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the project not only met but exceeded industry standards. STACK Infrastructure’s new data center is a testament to K+W’s dedication to delivering resilient, high-performance infrastructure that is as sustainable as it is functional—setting a benchmark for future data centers in Silicon Valley and beyond.
